SHIHAN ARNALDO S. TINAGAN
6TH DEGREE (ROKUDAN) BLACK BELT
It all started when I was in first year high school. I taught karate to my classmates and friends for free. Everything I learned from Nepolito Sallado in Tagum, Davao del Norte, I taught to my classmates. I was at that time a brown belt degree holder. Two years after, we changed our venue to another friend's house. At the same time I joined several competitions while I was teaching martial arts to my friends.
I was only 15 when I joined a boxing competition. I bagged the championship title in 1978. I played in PALARONG PAMBANSA in Cagayan de Oro. I continued doing this for a few more years and in College, I started teaching karate and kickboxing in our school in Tagum, Davao del Norte. At the same time I was active as an athlete in professional kick boxing. It was in 1979 when I visited Iloilo when I was asked to teach karate to friends at another friend house in Jibao-an, Manduriao, Iloilo.
It was then that I decided to teach martial arts on my own, instead of doing it in somebody else's house. So I started teaching at my grandmother's house instead. In 1981, I affiliated with Cadigano Cenina of YMCA, Iloilo. In 1982, I decided to lease a small place in their establishment. I called it Iloilo Tinagan Martial Arts Club. In 1995, we incorporated it and called it Iloilo Tinagan Martial Arts Club, Inc. and in 2006, we changed the name to Iloilo Tinagan School of Martial Arts, Inc. to cater the needs of other martial artists.
